In the first episode of the series Nature Profile, Radan produces a kind of educational video that introduces us to the tawny owl and its habitat, but also explores the bird’s cultural significance as the “death owl.” Although stylistically close to conventional nature documentaries, the video shifts into a surreal sequence in which the focus on the studied species is repeatedly interrupted by elements that quite clearly do not belong in the frame. Entirely digitally produced, the video appears on the one hand “documentary” in its construction – yet in its artistic composition, it is strikingly idiosyncratic. In this way, it moves closer to the unpredictable dynamics of nature than it might superficially seem.
